Field Notes

Description:

I larger syrphid fly, 10mm, with a wide abdomen. Distinctive black and yellow markings on the abdomen. Bicolored thorax. Adults feed on nectar, and larvae feed on organisms in stagnant water.

Habitat:

Prairie restoration area at Blackhawk State Park.
