Yep, my professor Darryl Jones was the first to discover that the young are born within the mound and are self-sufficient, they survive with no help from mum and dad. Very cool! http://www.publish.csiro.au/pid/5970.htm
Like many I have a love-hate relationship with the Australian brush-turkey... they attempted to destroy two of my gardens! They are incredible scratchers and built the most extraordinary nests!
