Haha, well cornflowers and thistles are actually in the same family, so that probably explains the resemblances!
Thanks for the info Laura, my guess was based on the bud alone, the flower is crazy!
Hey Matthew, just looked this up in my Wild Flower Key, and it's called the Perennial Cornflower! Beautiful flowers, what amazing looking buds (like they have scales or something). And the colour is pretty dazzling!
