Description:

The double-crested cormorant is a little more than two feet long with a wingspan of about four feet. It has dark brown to black feathers, a long hooked bill with an orange throat pouch, a long tail, and webbed black feet. Adults have tufts of feathers over their eyes. Males and females look alike.

Habitat:

Ranguana Caye

Notes:

I was photographing this cormorant from the boat when it caught something long and skinny. As you might know, it promptly swam behind the stanchion, which blocked my shot. When I finally got my camera on it again, the boat rocked as I took the picture cutting off the top portion of the picture, and of course, by the time I found it again, the cormorant had swallowed the thing whole. You can just see part of whatever it caught in one of the pictures.
