Yes, that's what is so fantastic about this photo - it shows not just the organism, but its behavior as well. I certainly learned something from it.
Thanks for the ID.. Well it was protecting the eggs.. so it must have been a mother!!
Best I can say is Order = Scolopendromorpha. That's actually the tail end at the bottom, which is why, without seeing the head, I can't do any better with an ID. One word I never would have associated with centipede was "maternal". Clearly I was wrong.
