Field Notes

Description:

The Common Blackbird is a species of true Thrush. The male is completely black with a yellow ring round its eye and a yellow beak. The adult female and young are dark brown.

Habitat:

They breed in woodland and gardens. This one is a regular visitor too my friends garden and is collecting a lot of food at the moment so I suspect it may have some young quite close.

Very lovely picture of a very friendly bird! And on the same vein as Malcolm, there's a blackbird about where I live that has one pure white tail feather. I would love to get a photo of him!

Normally the male is completely black but occasionally there are a few with variable white patches on the wings and I have seen these both in the UK and in Spain. I will try to find a picture of one I saw in Valencia a while back and post it.
