Field Notes

Description:

3 leaves, 3 petals, white or maroon in color, ~25-30cm tall

Habitat:

Wooded area just up the bank from a stream. Mostly shade. Cool and moist.

Notes:

The root can be used to treat menstrual cramps as well as being prepared into a paste to cover wounds or infected eyes to aid in healing.

The young leaves are great in a salad or as a pot herb, tasting like sunflower seeds.

Fyi the name birthroot comes from the fact that the root can be used to treat menstrual cramps. The young leaves are great for salad, tasting like sunflower seeds.
