Field Notes

Description:

A Macaque from the Atlas Mountains in North Africa, with a small population on Gibraltar. They are the only other primates to be found freely in Europe. They form troops of 10 to 100, which are matriarchal.

Habitat:

Mountain forests

Notes:

I uploaded this before, but it got messed up my end (couldn't see any of the pictures). These macaques were everywhere on the Rock of Gibraltar. They were quite bold, I saw a baby trying to sneak into the souvenir shop anytime someone opened the door. Looking into their eyes was strange, so human-like.

Cool !!!! these monkeys are too beautiful :)) Your photos are unbelievable! I 've never seen monkeys in the wild, they are only here in the zoo ... It would be quite a feeling to take these pictures :) You really deserved the prize of Best Wildlife Photo Contest. My favorite :))
