Field Notes

Description:

Smallish moth, 1.5 inches. Late afternoon. I think Bisected Honey Locust Moth, Sphingicampa bisecta ... too bad the hindwings aren't visible. (My first thought was Spiny Oakworm Moth or Pink-striped Oakworm Moth, genus Anisota ... but those have a white spot on the forewings.)

Notes:

Also found this moth identified as Syssphinx bisecta ... not sure which scientific name is preferred.

Thanks very much, StirredMocha, I was leaning toward Bisected honey locust moth, too ... I'm going to go ahead and make the ID.
I think bisected honey locust moth is your best bet for this individual.
