Field Notes

Description:

A medium sized Hornbill with yellow-orange to chrome yellow bill with black cutting edges and gonys; yellow iris with dark pink skin around eye and on gular; black legs and feet.

Habitat:

Bushveld, arid thornveld, woodland, savanna.

Notes:

Forages mainly on ground (runs well) but also in trees. Eats insects, rodents, scorpions, centipedes, solifiguds, fruit and seeds. Tempted him to approach with a trail of breadcrumbs on a viewing platform in Hwange Game Park.
