Description:

Would love to know the name of this plant so I can plant some in my back yard to attract these butteflies!

Habitat:

The plant was found growing abundantly in a South Australian National Park

Everyone else has been close, but not quite correct. It is actually Gomphocarpus cancellatus (Broad-leaf Cotton-bush). Common on hillsides in the southern parts of South Australia.
Oooh cool! So is it an actual weed? I wonder if there are any laws or restrictions to me planting this plant in my yard...and where to find some to purchase...
Yup, I'm with ceherzog! Their caterpillars love munching on milkweed :) Good luck in making your garden Monarch-friendly!
It's a milkweed, possibly Common Milkweed, Asclepias syriaca. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asclepias_syriaca Any species of milkweed will attract the Monarch butterflies.
