Field Notes

Description:

light brown seed in center, surrounded by paper thin wings

Habitat:

limestone with monsoon forest

Notes:

I spotted this seed in Phu Hin Bun National Protected Area in central Laos near Tha Khaek. The surreal blue water in the background is the blue lagoon.
It's been hard to find information on this. This aren't many images online. The closest I saw is the seed of Alsomitra macrocarpa.

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (2)

Birch seed or Betula is somewhat similiar. Trying to guess.
This kind of structure helps the seed in pollination. it is easier for the wind to disperse these seeds. in a way this is"self pollination". Have seen a lot of these in India and kids called them Monkey nuts.
