Field Notes

Description:

A tiny Big-Headed Fly of the Family Pipunculidae. Most, including this one, are parasitoids on Homoptera. They are usually small, this one is only 4 mm long in body. The wings are almost double the length of the abdomen. These are not common and it is great fun to find one. Family Pipunculidae.

Mark, you're welcome! Love finding out something new!
Thanks for looking at it Lauren. I'm sure he'll be pleased. An interesting one. I could really get into flies - pity they mostly don't stay still for long.
Thank you Cindy :) all the better to see you and eat you! Mark, I think Audie's fly is a Sciomyzidae, a Slug Killing Fly. Very neat. I'm not sure if that exact species occurs in Korea as well as in Europe.
Sorry to hijack Lauren.. can you please look at this one http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/621186008
Thank you Mark, how about lots of visual acuity for a compliment? Maybe a good thinker? They should have used this one in the movie "The Fly" :)
Lovely series. No more compliments for this guy though!
