Description:

The hive now in spring (first set of three photographs) obviously survived the winter (second set of three photographs) and its looking good, the bees are very active, it was a warm afternoon, in fact they kept flying into me when I was taking these photographs.

Habitat:

Pear / Plum Orchard, Adelaide hills

Notes:

The second set of photos show the hive in winter, "This hive was found in some trees (none fruit) in the orchard across the road from me"

Dhobern, thanks for your ID I'll update the spotting
These are honey bees. Amegilla (blue-banded bees) are solitary and don't form hives - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amegilla_cingulata
