These guys mate twice a year in May and Oct. You need to make sure you wash their carcasses off your car since their innards can ruin the paint job.

I think these are mating St. Mark's flies. Bibio marci. The one at the bottom would be the male. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibio_marci
