Field Notes

Description:

A distinctive trait of this monkey is the male's large protruding nose, from which it takes its name. The big nose is thought to be used to attract females and is a characteristic of the males, reaching up to 7 inches in length. It also has a potbelly.

Habitat:

coastal rainforest, mangroves

Notes:

I spotted this proboscis monkey eating in a tree in a mangrove. Proboscis monkeys are endemic to Borneo and Bako National Park is one of the best places to see them.

Thanks for sharing that link Carolina. I'm an Amazon river dolphin!
Thanks Carolina! Kind of a vague quiz but fun. Apparently I'm a hippo! Some of it rings true.
I just read they are also hunted for bezoar stones, an intestinal secretion used in traditional Chinese medicine. And here is the link so you can take the test! http://www.worldwildlife.org/sites/inner-animal/index.html
So you're a proboscis monkey on the inside, eh?! Sounds like a fun quiz. Wonder what I am? The additional info is always appreciated.
I once took a WWF quiz and it said my inner animal was a Proboscis Monkey because I definitely have a unique character haha, maybe that's why I always liked Gonzo in The Muppet Show :) They are listed as Endangered due hunting and habitat destruction; their populations have declined by more than 50% in 40 years.
