Description:

A small Hog-nosed snake basking in the sun.

Habitat:

Found in Crex Meadows, Wisconsin by some ponds.

Notes:

Hog-nosed snakes are not constrictors. They can flatten their heads to look bigger and they also will play dead.

Eastern hog-nosed snakes consume amphibians, mainly toads, but they will also eat small mammals, birds, birds eggs (ground nesters), insects, lizards, snakes, and carrion.
