Field Notes

Description:

The white stripes shine with an opalescent blue tinge, hence the name. I have been hoping to see one of these for a long time, but I didn't realize they were in Alaska so I was taken by surprise! It was also larger than I was expecting, probably close to 3 inches (~7.5 cm) long

Habitat:

Found on the side of a concrete dock in a harbor

Thanks Mark and Felix!
Thanks Jim and Christine! Jim, the dock was halfway sunken and only floating because it was chained to the main docks, so many animals were exposed that I think are normally a little deeper and more covered. It was a great opportunity to photograph some animals that are normally more awkward to photograph.
Machi...great photography and spotting. Usually you have to go deeper to find these guys.
