Field Notes

Description:

Amazing flies we spotted. They would rest incredibly still on leaves, bushes and trees but then others were bouncing rapidly up and down above the long grass as if they were on an invisible trampoline.

Their bodies are about 30mm in length, with tails about 40mm long that look like 2-3 strands of coarse, black horsehair.

Habitat:

Woodland, lakeside, in long grass.
