Description:

large, about 1.5", purple iridescent wings

Habitat:

rainforest, wooden structures

Notes:

I think this is a carpenter bee. It was boring into the wood above my mosquito net at Uncle Tan's Wildlife camp. I would shake off the wood chips often but it wouldn't take long to accumulate a new pile.

Looks like those carpenter bees were hard at work! I don't know what species are in Malaysia, but it is definitely in the genus Xylocopa.

It is a carpenter Bee, Definitely We have one boring into our stairs

What a nuisance those little critters are! We use the slang term "wood-borers". But, carpenter bees is correct!
