Field Notes

Description:

A medium-sized woodpecker, the belly has just a hint of red. Adults are mostly a light gray with a black back with white bars. Males have a red patch on the back of the head and a red mustache stripe while females have a red patch on the back of the head and a small spot of red at the base of the top mandible.

Habitat:

Deciduous forests of eastern US and Canada.

Looks to be correct now. I figured there was a reason you had the right scientific name.
Yes, I had started to put up a northern flicker spotting, but changed it to red-bellied. I changed the common name, but maybe it didn't take. Thanks for the note; I may not have seen this.
