Western Gull
Larus occidentalis
37.4963, -122.495
Field Notes
Description:
A large gull species found only on the Pacific coast of North America, this bird was once threatened due to heavy collection of its eggs. However, it has rebounded and now is very common within its range.
Notes:
The first bird shown was the first to find the kelp crab. However, as it enjoyed its meal, the juvenile shown in the second picture came along to steal its prize. When I left 30 minutes later, the birds were still seeming to be stealing the crab from each other.
