Field Notes

Description:

Differentiated from Barrow's Goldeneyes based on the circular rather than crescent-shaped white patch on the face. Their heads were conspicuously taller on top than what most photos show. I think they can fluff up the feathers on the top of their heads.

Habitat:

Boat harbor surrounded by small islands and jetties to keep the waves down. In the winter when the seas are rougher, the birds seem to spend more time in this area.
