Field Notes

Description:

The color of coyotes fur varies from brownish-grey to yellowish-gray on the upper parts, while the throat and belly tend to have a white color. Looking a lot like a wolf its ears are large compared to its head and has a pointed snout. Coyotes typically grow to 76–86 cm in length, not counting a tail of 30–41 cm, stand about (58–66 cm) at the shoulder and weigh from 15–46 lb. Has canine teeth. shares its environment with rabbits, fish, frogs, deer, and depending on what region it lives in, mountain goats (featured in the photo.) Symbiotic relationships include wolves which hunt it.(parasitism) and they sometimes hunt with foxes. (mutualism)
The coyote has fur which grows different length depending on the season.
Coyotes adjust their hunting style to what foods are available. When they hunt small prey alone, they usually stalk it and then pounce. If the prey is larger like a deer, they will often hunt in small packs and work together to kill the prey. They use sexual reproduction and the female chooses the partner.

Habitat:

This species niche is as follows: they live in all of north america except the upper eastern regions of Canada. It eats rabbits, fish, frogs, goat, small rodents and deer. Wolves, cougars, and sometimes bears eat it. They mark their territory with urine and stay in packs. I saw it in kananaskis at the base of a mountain, July 27, 2010.

Oh, and can you update the date of your spotting as per your information in habitat? Thanks!
Hello! Lots of information provided. Thanks for that. But with an image like yours it needs more information! How did you get such a shot? Also for habitat you can focus on the habitat of YOUR spotting (your last line). General habitat can be got from reference links. (That's why there are spaces to add them). Please see the FAQs http://www.projectnoah.org/faq for this advice and more!
