Email answer from Nick from www.lifeunseen.com (Great Web page!) ... I can tell you it is a leaf beetle from the family Chrysomelidae, and I believe it may be from the subfamily Eumolpinae or Galerucinae, but that is as close I can get.
I like this photo very much. Have you found the Id yet?
According to the ABRS Australian Faunal Directory, the genus Gastrophysa does not occur in Australia as it is endemic to Europe.
I think its very close to Green Dock Beetle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastrophysa_viridula
I feel like my first year working in medical research.. Or my first trip to India!!!
I still believe this beetle belongs in the family Chrysomelidae. The genus Cyphon belongs to the family Scirtidae. These small, green chrysomelid leaf eating beetles are difficult to put to genus. I have had another look and it could be in the genus Colaspoides. Cheers
Common name?? or full Name PLEASE????
Right family - wrong genus. I think it is Edusella.
Could this be a Metallic Green Leaf Beetle - Callidemum sp. FAMILY CHRYSOMELIDAE
