Field Notes

Description:

This specimen was a good-sized spider measuring more than one inch with a large yellow abdomen marked with brownish "marbling."

Habitat:

From Alaska down through the Rockies and midwest south to Texas, and then to the Atlantic states.

Notes:

This spider's web was in a tree about ten feet above the ground and was viewed from an elevated walkway trail constructed above the forest floor. The web was approximately three feet wide at its largest diameter and was in the shape of a wheel, or orb.
