Field Notes

Description:

Next to tiger, lion and jaguar the leopard is the smallest of the four "big cats" in the genus Panthera.

Habitat:

Once distributed all over Africa and Asia from Siberia to South Africa it is now mostly found in sub-Saharan Africa. Small fragments occur in Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Indochina, Malaysia, and China. Its habitat ranges from rainforest to desert terrains.

Notes:

It was rather unusual that this leopard stayed beside the car for almost 10 min. Usually they are very shy. It took me a lot of game drives before I saw my first leopard.
