Field Notes

Description:

Probably less than a week old, since there were no baby geese on this pond a week ago.

Notes:

This gosling and a sibling managed to get into a section of the pond that had been chicken-wired off for some reason and couldn't find the way back out. I watched for, like, half-an-hour as they tried to get back to their parents and third sibling. I couldn't figure out how they got in there, so I couldn't just chase them back to the opening. They became rather upset when they couldn't get back to their parents and kept putting their heads through the chicken wire and getting entangled. The parents were *none* too thrilled when I climbed over the barrier to get to them, and hissed like crazy geese, but never tried to prevent me from getting to the babies and never actually honked. So I cornered the little ones and put them back on mom and dad's side of the fence and watched them all take off back into the water and over to the island set up for bird breeding/nesting.
