A bizarre wading bird of the southern coasts, the Roseate Spoonbill uses its odd bill to strain small food items out of the water. Its bright pink coloring leads many Florida tourists to think they have seen a flamingo.

Thank you to all the Rangers. You are very generous and I am thrilled! Thanks Mark!
Congrats james, our Ranger team has chosen your fabulous roseate spoonbill as its Spotting of the Week! The spoonbill gets its incredible pink coloration from its diet of crustaceans – just like the flamingo! Thank you Fyn and Larry. I am honored and incredibly flattered by the nomination. I just posted my 4000th spotting and almost 25000 pics in past 8 months. I wish good luck to all the other nominees but would be lying if I didn't say I have everything crossed for me. Thanks again for the recognition.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Thanks to all who helped make this my most liked spotting so far!
