Species ID Suggestions

European Golden Oriole

Oriolus oriolus

Comments (11)

Malcom Indian is already European, migrated and settled here. Call it Eurasian..!!
I have now found that there are at least 5 possible sub-species of Golden Oriole and each has several common names. The main differences are in the precise wing and tail patterning and in the songs (so I have read). Oriolus oriolus, Linnaeus, 1758 Oriolus oriolus oriolus, Linnaeus, 1758 Oriolus oriolus kundoo, Sykes, 1832 Oriolus oriolus turkestanica, Zarudny et Kudashev, 1918 Oriolus oriolus baltistanicus, Koelz, 1939 Common names used have been Golden Oriole European Golden Oriole Eurasian Golden Oriole Indian Golden Oriole The first three have been used for Oriolus oriolus oriolus and all four for Oriolus Kundoo. I think more research need to be done to locate drawings of the different patterns, but apparently the best field identification is the song!
Malcolm you are correct, its definitely Golden Oriole. Its a regularly migratory bird found in North India.
Thank u, I am showing the location of my pic now!!!!!!!!The pic of bird is taken at pilani-Rajastan a state of INDIA.
There are 2 sub-species of Golden Oriole, this one appears to be O.o.kundoo which is found only on the Indian sub-continent where O.o.oriolus is a vagrant.
This appears to be a Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus) but without the location on the map I cannot be 100% certain as there are others very similar.
Geeta, all of your spottings are in a draft state, they won't show up in the Noah Feed. You'll need to at least the category (bird in this case) and location where you spotted it for it to appear in the feed. Let me know if you need help.
