Description:

Wide green leaves like butterfly wings. Plants grow from a small corm, similar to oxalis.

Habitat:

Heavily wooded stream side (mixed hardwood forest). Just outside of floodplain.

Looked it up and I'd have to agree w/you. One ref did say they are variable (subspecies). Thanks :)
This leaf resembles that of a bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis), but I'd expect a bit more lobing.
