Description:

A garter snake opens it's mouth and shows it's teeth.

Habitat:

Grass and leaf litter

Notes:

This was the most aggressive gater snake I have ever found. It actually came toward me like this instead of fleeing, though it never actually tried to bite.

A garter snake with attitude!
Your observation about finding an aggressive garter snake reminds me that I've noticed the garter snakes in PA are not as shy as the ones I found while living in MI. PA must grow a more aggressive garter... but I must admit, I've never had a garter snake come at me bearing its teeth like the one in your great photo.
My daughter, as a girl used to remove snakes and skunks for people from their properties and the only thing that ever bit her was a garter snake.
