Field Notes

Description:

Cream coloured wings with black and red circles

Habitat:

they are found on mountains in Europe usually above 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) up to 2,000 m (6,600 ft). I found these two mating next to a waterfall, apparently the caterpillars feed on stonecrop and there was loads of this around the particular site.

Notes:

The Apollo is on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals in Appendix II in CITES and is mentioned in annex IV of the habitats directive.
