I have suggested two IDs based on the links below. Please look at them. I cannot tell from your photo, because it does not show the outer edges of the moth, something, which I call a "Species Indicator."
I cannot tell from the photo, did it look more like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Smerinthus_jamaicensis2.jpg Or this: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.silkmoths.bizland.com/Smerinthuscerisyijh6092.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.silkmoths.bizland.com/scerisyi.htm&h=162&w=216&sz=8&tbnid=SKMffz-hwMqptM&tbnh=0&tbnw=0&prev=/search%3Fq%3Done%2Beyed%2Bsphinx%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=one+eyed+sphinx&usg=__Z3e1ZOjY8OfgxLdumFLWIxaioMo=&docid=iLRKKabzyvevmM&sa=X&ei=2TvzT6GbPIH46wG_3d2qCA&ved=0CIEBENUX
