Description:

body about 3" long

Habitat:

dry, spiny desert.
Antlions are worldwide in distribution, most common in arid and sandy habitats

Notes:

I spotted this on the wall of my room in La Mangrove resort, south of Toliara.

It also looks like what Dan says so I am probably wrong and is an antlion.
For me it looks like it could be a mayfly from Ephemera genus, but the species I am not sure.
I believe this is in in the order neuroptera. It is the adult of what is known as a doodle bug or antlion.. It is not a damselfly. Very interesting!
