Field Notes

Description:

This is a small wading bird. White below and brown-patterned above. Orange legs and feet. The bill is short and gray.

Habitat:

Ocean shorelines during winter, tundra near water during the breeding breeding season. Widespread around the world.

Notes:

Typically I find these birds to be quite wary, but on the Dry Tortugas National Park, they frequented the campground where they would scurry about underfoot scooping up bread crumbs and sesame seeds that we accidentally dropped while eating breakfast.

I rarely get to the ocean, living right in the middle of North America, but I was running through some pictures I took a couple of years ago and thought I'd post several. Simply loved the Dry Tortugas; great place to visit.
Absolutely beautiful pic Gordon. Loving your seabird pictures today!!
