Field Notes

Description:

Purplish to wine red, ~ 30 cm tall. Most had not opened up so it was difficult to tell if they were the striped variety (Corallorhiza striata, "Striped Coralroot") or the spotted variety (Corallorhiza maculata, "Western Coralroot"). Neither stripes nor spots were distinctive.

Habitat:

Found in a shaded, coniferous forest, growing in mossy area.
Was dry at the time, but had probably been moist prior to then as we are transitioning into our dry season here on Vancouver Island (Canada)
