Description:
The Meadow Sage is a herbaceous flowering perennial plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae). It forms a basal rosette of rugose leaves, and lax spikes of large blue flowers.
Habitat:
Native to Palearctic zone, it is often found in meadows, grasslands and pastures; like here, found in large numbers on grassland/pasture lands on hills (Mt Mourex) at the basis of Jura mountain range; valley of lake Geneva (Leman), just in between Alps and Jura ranges.
Notes:
Meadow Sage founds its use in various traditional medicaments; from gargling remedy for a sore throat (my grandmother administered to us when we were kids) to a flavoring agent for wines and liquors. It is also known as a melliferous plant.
