Description:

large, about 3" long, very furry, shades of grey

Habitat:

atlantic coast rainforest

Notes:

I spotted this on top of Corcovado mountain, near the famous Christ Redeemer statue. I think it was nearly dead.

I was thinking the same thing, though the photographs of the specimens in my reference link are from the United States, and since you found this in Brazil, it could be a subspecies or a tropical variation. Since there are no other members in the Agrius genus, I think it is an efficient match. Perhaps someone else could shed some light into this one. :-)

Thanks J. The wings really seem to match, the only thing that I'm not sure about is the pattern behind the head on mine. I know the photos aren't great but it looks a bit different than A. cingulata. What do you think?
