The huge shadow gives it an "horror movie" like mood. Nice capture. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I'd say second or third instar out of five, as a guess.
It's not really variety within the species, as mcuh as it is caused by the number of changes they go through every time they moult into a new exoskeleton. Early instars can look very little like the final 'adult' stage. It's sometimes comparable comparing caterpillars to butterflies, they're the same critter, but very much changed between nymph to imago (final stage).
Thanks. Looking at the different pictures for that, it looks like there's quite a lot of variety within that species.
