Field Notes

Description:

Popularly known as the Guineafowl due to it's colour and pattern which resembles that of the guineafowl bird. The wingspan is 55–65 mm for males and 60–78 mm for females.

Habitat:

This is a grassland / savannah species found at altitudes between sea level and about 800m. It is associated mainly with dry, rocky grassland where there are scattered bushes and trees, but also rapidly colonises abandoned agricultural land.

Notes:

I spotted this beside a stream near Mountain Paradise Lodge in the Volta region of eastern Ghana.
