Field Notes

Description:

Terrific translucent wings partially filled with pigment. Torso and abdominal areas gray/tan with spots of white. Head also has a few white flecks.

Habitat:

Near a frog pond in thick brush.

I'm almost sure it's a female Common Whitetail. She looks exactly like the second shot on this webpage: http://greennature.com/gallery/libellulidae/common-whitetail.html

It's a Common Whitetail. It might be a male, but mature males have a pruinose abdomen (turns white with age).
