Species ID Suggestions

Comments (2)

Certainly it is a Calopteryx, but virgo is a European species. It may be a ebony jewelwing (Calopteryx maculata), but start your search here to see if you can narrow down the ID: http://bugguide.net/node/view/550/bgimage?from=0. At any rate, it is a beautiful insect. We find them here in Minnesota along sun-dappled trout streams, and it doesn't get much better than that.
