i have no idea of which butterfly caterpillar this is. it was the most hairy caterpillar i have seen. from a distance it looked like the brunches of the bush were hairy. but i know that plant. it didnt had any hairy thing. so close observation only reveled this amazing caterpillar...

@ gina no, its not hickory tussock moth. i googled for images and they are different...
i am very sure but it can be a 5th instar larva of Lophocampa caryae - Hickory Tussock Moth
wow ! I find that simply amazing!
no no... it was very active.. if it was at transition period, it would be inactive..
looks like the beginning of the next stage, "Pupa"
