The bud looks exactly that of the jungle germanium and the shape of the petals too. The phlox (though I have probably not seen one) has rounded petals. :-) That variant is extra pointy compared to jungle germanium or 'santan' as we locally call it.
Thanks for the suggestion but the flower is not on a shrub. It is also in the desert southwest. I think it may be related more to phlox but not sure yet
the color that you've just spotted is lovely flushed pink.. I haven't seen that variant though. We usually have red and yellow in the Philippines.
