Field Notes

Description:

Two off-white mushrooms, with light brown centers. Cap of smaller mushroom convex to slightly nobbed, smooth, ~ 20 mm diameter. Margin appears serrated where it is upturned, but only because the upturning makes the gill structure visible. The larger individual is “past its prime”. Its cap is heart-shaped as an artifact of deterioration which has caused its margin to become severely, irregularly upturned and has created a large radial tear; its average diameter is ~ 45 mm. Stems creamy white, cylindrical (equal), thin, 3-4 mm diameter, 50-70 mm tall. Gills off-white, adnate, close.

Habitat:

Suburban neighborhood on an insular tropical upland plateau.

Notes:

Spotted growing in a common area lawn.
