Field Notes

Description:

Green with darker head, a very striking red section and lime green wing flaps. This picture is part of a series of sightings in the Ecuadorian Amazon region of grasshoppers, that to my eyes shared some similar features: between 2-2.5cm body length with long back legs, large eyes, and underdeveloped wings; in some animals these were just small flaps or completely absent. I don't think they're nymphs, though. I can't find information on these, apart from a few pictures tagged Eulampiacris as the genus. I hope someone is able to provide more information.

Habitat:

Tropical rainforest in the Ecuadorian Amazon region.

Wow, that's great info bayucca! I wonder if some of the other pictures, which look quite similar fit into that genus... Anyway, thanks a million!
Acrididae, Ommatolampidinae, Hippariacris sp. and possibly Hippariacris latona. There is obviously no other species in that genus, until know. http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/common/basic/Taxa.aspx?TaxonNameID=1115346 http://orthoptera.speciesfile.org/common/basic/ShowImage.aspx?TaxonNameID=1115346&ImageID=198525
