I just saw this exact shaped/colored moth last night (May 22, 2014), on am outside screen at a restaurant right on Lake Champlain in Addison County, Vermont. Phone was dead so no picture, dang it!

Looks like s a male of one of the "eye-sphinx" moths.
Its very close to Eyed Hawkmoth (Smerinthus ocellata)
I've seen a few different varieties of brown and grey in Northern Illinois. The wings look like a variety of sphinx moth.
I'm very curious about the upturned abdomen. Has anyone seen a moth do this?
