Field Notes

Description:

Males and females are similar in plumage, pearly grey above with a black eye-mask and white underparts. They impal little rodents on thorns, to eat them.

Habitat:

May have been just wintering in the Caribbean. In the summer they should be found up North in the hemisphere.

Yes, is sometimes amazing that a little bird can also be a hunter the magnitude of a raptor. Is like dolphins, everyone thinks of them as very peaceful creatures but this is a misleading concept. They can also be very agressive and they even kill small whales once in while..This is all part of nature..it does not make it any less nice :-)
Very similar to Indian. It pinned his hunted insects in to tree prickles and slowly eat them.
Thanks for the story, though I am sorry for the Great Tit.
This bird has occasionally appeared in our garden in the summer. Beautiful bird, but dangerous to the smaller birds in the garden. I saw it hunt and kill a Great Tit (Parus major) once. Very determined, and not easily distracted...
