Field Notes

Description:

The Plant Lice (Aphids) shown here look like Cerataphis lataniae and the species is confirmed present in the Philippines by Wikipedia. However, the only picture in Wiki's article is a very basic drawing which depicts only one stage in the life of this insect. So I felt that it would be safer to call my spotting Ceretaphis sp. There is a picture in https://www.flickr.com/photos/nickadel/13638835223..... taken by a professional photographer and it shows similar insects in various stages of development and some similarities can be seen there. However, they are labelled Ceretaphis sp. also.

Habitat:

These Palm Aphids were spotted in our backyard on the leaves of a Spiny Bamboo (Bambusa bambos) locally known as Kauayan-tinik. Plant information from http://www.stuartxchange.org/Kauayan.html
